But now you can make them look remarkably better with the FF7 Remako HD graphics mod, which is available to download as a beta today. If you're wondering how that works: Last week I wrote about how modders are using neural networks to more intelligently upscale images, to great effect with the low-res backgrounds featured in old PS1 games.
The upscaled images aren't magically perfect—there's naturally some lost detail and some bluriness when you quadruple the size of an image, but this technique does a remarkable job of preserving the style of the original work while getting rid of the pixelation. A bit of everything. Its a much more difficult game as well. For those looking for more challenge. ApeEscaper Member. Oct 27, 8, Bangladeshi.
Wish there was real 60fps battles not interpolated. Lastdancer Member. Nov 1, I'm currently in the process of using the guide linked in the OP to mod my steam copy for use with Reunion and Remako mods. However, I do want to try the new threat mod, too.
Is it going to cause trouble if I install new threat after I finish installing the Reunion and Remako mods? Well, I seem to have hit an impasse in my game. I'm at the part right after the sewers and train graveyard where you run up the pillar's stairs in Sector 7 seeing Biggs and Jessie along the way. When I talk to Barret at the top, Cloud and Tifa go to move to their positions for the cutscene, but Tifa just keeps running into the middle of the pillar. This happens even if I disable Remako and the model overhaul mod.
Anyone seen this before? Really hope it isn't somehow a problem with my save file or something. Last edited: Jan 5, Lastdancer said:. Pavemaniac Member.
Sep 10, Hopefully once R07 is released - the version where the localization is expected to be finalized, the mod will go on to become more widely name-checked amongst fans and regularly recommended to first-time players.
My only real complaint at the moment is that for the relocalization, some names were changed; for instance, Marlene is now Marin. Some of it can look a little dodgy, yeah. Certain text in backgrounds that wasn't readable before sticks out like a sore thumb. I still think the mod is worth using though, since it makes most of the background elements look a lot more clear and defined.

I still haven't been able to get my Sector 7 Pillar bug fixed. I ended up just switching back to the PS4 version. Oct 27, For those who are interested, here are some screenshots of Satsuki's HD Mod.

Nezacant Member. Yeah, I made an archive of my modded install so I could go back to it later if needed, then deleted the install and redownloaded the game from Steam. The only thing I made sure to keep from the modded version was my save file.
I'll try again later and see if maybe running the game in compatibility mode might fix it, but I'm not sure. The weird thing is that normally in that scene or at least this is how it was when I played on PS4 last night , Tifa runs to be northeast of Barret, while Cloud runs to a spot to Barret's southeast. However, on my PC, Cloud ran to Barret's southwest, while Tifa ran east of Barret, which is what was causing the problem since she just continuously runs into the pillar.
I got these mods working, but I ended up having a similar issue the OP did but mine was in the Honey Bee. In the group room one of the guys can't get into position and it causes you to have to Alt F4 out of the game. I could just go to the other room but I have a feeling, with the issue the OP had and my issue is just a sign of things to come.
I probably wont continue with this. Nezacant said:. Arkanim94 Member. Oct 27, 11, He was in the first slot, I tried moving him to different slots and got the same result. I'll mess around with it some more by turning off some of the mod options. Kinda doubt it goes sub though.
The main goal of the SYW mod is to improve the graphics as much as possible without having an oversharp and overclean effect. The mod also attempts to keep the rendering as natural as possible and constant in quality across the whole game.
Going into even more details, the SYW mod overhauls backgrounds and animation files. Satsuki Yatoshi has also manually optimized over layers. Its function is simple enough — the mod replaces the MIDI soundtrack of the PC port with the original music of the game. It's this fact itself that makes it one of the best FF7 mods! It replaces the main party with Shinra people. Rufus is used in place of Cloud, for example, and other members of his board are in there too like Scarlet.
The last update was last July. The battle backdrops that Final Fantasy 7 transitions into are certainly quite nostalgia-inducing. However, even the most ardent Final Fantasy 7 fans will have to admit that the textures of these battle areas have aged quite poorly. It's a great Final Fantasy 7 mod for players who want each and every aspect of their game to be as polished and modern as possible. This mod auto-scales the graphics on the PC version of the game and attempts to smooth them over.
The spell names present in Final Fantasy games are quite notable in their own right. The natural evolution of spells such as Fire evolving into Fira and then Firaga is quite a treat to witness, but Final Fantasy 7 lacks this approach.
Instead, most upgraded spells are referred to as Fire2 or Fire3 instead, which can be quite jarring to read for Final Fantasy veterans. The Modern Spell Names mod makes this small yet extremely noticeable change that certainly increases the authenticity of this title to quite an extent.
